Hobart Cup
Sunday is the running of the Group 3 Hobart Cup, one of the feature races on the Tasmanian racing calendar. A field of ten horses will take to the turf to contest the $225,000 race and the track is currently rated dead.
The impressive Geegees Blackflash has opened as a short $2.70 favourite for the 2012 Hobart Cup. He has won all four of his races this prep, with the two most impressive wins coming in the Tasmania Stakes and Tasmania Newmarket, both Listed races and ideal lead up races to the Hobart Cup.
Rainbow Styling is next in betting at $4.00 and looks a decent chance going by his win on Australia Day at Caulfield in a pretty handy field. Fieldmaster ($6.00) won in Hobart last start in the Jockey Club Cup against many in this field and looks very fit.
Roi D’jeu is the distance specialist winning 3 of his five starts at 2200m as well as a second. He is in solid form this prep and will be a genuine threat. Dream Flyer looks the value bet at $13.00. He ran second to Fieldmaster in the Jockey Club Cup and was a winner of the Devonport Cup two starts back. He has a good record at Hobart also.
